Natural, Nature-Derived, and Nature-Identical

Natural ingredients are those to which only physical processes or fermentation have been applied.

Nature derived ingredients are the result of chemical processes of natural ingredients.

Nature-identical/ biocompatible ingredients are reproduced in the laboratory but exist in nature.

Poetry uses predominantly natural and naturally derived ingredients - and nature identical ingredients such as Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Allantoin, Sodium Citrate and Heptapeptide-8 (Peptides).  

For our preservative system we use: Pentylene Glycol Green which is COSMOS approved. Pentylene Glycol Green is a sugar cane derivative and is technically a "preservative free" preservation strategy. Microbes need water to be available to them so that they can thrive. Humectants such as Pentylene Glycol Green capture and lock-up a formulations free water thus rendering the formulation environment stressful for microbes. A humectancy approach to product preservation, where free water is bound up is one of the healthiest strategies for the microbiome as it has not shown to have a negative effect on the skin's natural flora. We also use Sodium Levulinate and Sodium Anisate which are both COSMOS approved.

Ingredients are not always available in an organic form, and organic ingredients are not always possible to source due to the quantity and quality available.

Our formulations contain citronellol and geraniol in very low concentrations as constituents of our essential oils.
